terminology “Computer-type” terminology is everywhere now – everything has a chip or memory or some kind of “brain” in it.

We recently decided to upgrade our television service. Oddly, we got an install appointment quickly! I was sitting back, quite proud of myself, when my husband asked, “Are we going to lose all the programming we have stored on the box when they replace it?” Ugh, no one had mentioned that…. so I called the company and sure enough – they don’t move the programs for you. When I asked how to do it, the customer service rep checked his script and said I needed an external hard drive with a eSATA port (a term I was completely unfamiliar with).

The short version: I probably have those items but it is not possible according to every article I Googled and read.

Today I got a great email from Kim Komando explaining what an eSATA was – and a few other terms that I’m sure some of my readers are not familiar with. So I’m sharing the link to her article here.

Our solution: Put off installation for another week, watch a few more shows, burn some concerts to DVDs overnight, and lose the rest… Sometimes technology is a pain!
